Our Vision
Be the springboard for underprivileged youth so that their dreams come true
The Antetokounmpo brothers’ vision is to provide children from vulnerable social groups with the opportunities they lacked when growing up, and let kids experience the power of sport to change lives.
NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers – widely known as AntetokounBros – have launched AntetokounBros Academy, a program to help boys and girls (aged 10-16) and aspiring coaches (aged 18-25) realize their sporting potential, gain life skills and become better citizens.
AntetokounBros believe that through social actions and various partnerships, children will receive healthy and sound stimuli that will help them develop a balanced character, learn to work hard, be better teammates, and become better people. Not only on the basketball court but also at home, at school and within the community.
The mission of this program in Greece is to provide access to sport, inspiration through education, and scholarships to open pathways in life.
The Program
AntetokounBros Academy is a community program that combines basketball training and educational inspiration aimed towards underprivileged young boys and girls aged 10 to 16.
The program involves 75 minutes of basketball training twice a week for 100 athletes per year at two training outdoor basketball courts:
Sepolia outdoor basketball court (Maniataki 46, Athens) and Ellinoroson outdoor basketball court (Chalepa 2, Athens) , with each hosting 50 athletes.
Moreover, the program provides up to 12 training positions for junior coaches aged 18 to 25 during the season. The junior coaches will be able to participate in the training sessions of the AntetokounBros Academy under the supervision of the Head Coach Evina Maltsi, an international athlete, who has made history in women’s basketball.
In addition to the core basketball training, the program involves athlete clinics from basketball athletes, tournament events, a series of mentoring workshops, inspirational speeches, and basketball school sessions that athletes and junior coaches will also need to attend as part of their participation. The educational sessions will be held at the Onassis Stegi.
Season duration: November 2022 – June 2023
The Courts
Sepolia
Painted in February 2017 to honor the first time that Giannis played for NBA All-Star game.
Giannis grew up in the Sepolia neighborhood of Athens, Greece playing basketball and dreaming of one day playing in the NBA All-Star game. On the weekend ‘The Greek Freak’ made his All-Star debut, Nike worked with Greek street artist Same84 to honor the accomplishment by painting the court in his likeness. Giannis said of the court: “The court where me and my brothers grew up playing on.”
Ellinoroson
Graffiti artist Nique curated the court of Ellinoroson. “From nothing to everything” was the brief given to the artist. According to her: “This was a very difficult project because you must draw on the ground, but I believe that the result can really act as an incentive for the kids to engage into sports. When Nike assigned me the project for the Ellinoroson court, I researched on the Antetokounmpo story and I think that he is a great source of inspiration to believe that wherever you are, or come from, if you try hard enough you can make it”
Inspiration quote from Giannis:
“The way I work, not a lot of people do. When I’m on the court, I’m going to make sure they know that they didn’t work as hard as me.”
