Our Vision

Be the springboard for underprivileged youth so that their dreams come true.

AntetokounBros, as Giannis has stated, will be more known for the social contribution of the family than for basketball successes.

Wanting to help as many people in need as possible, prioritizing Greece and Africa, the Antetokounmpo brothers’ vision is to give young children from vulnerable social groups opportunities they did not have growing up.

Beyond basketball, that is the reason and benchmark for this effort.

AntetokounBros believe that through social actions and various partnerships, children will receive healthy and sound stimuli that will help them create a balanced character, learn to work hard, be better teammates, and become better people. Not only on the basketball court, but also at home, at school and within the community.

The Program

AntetokounBros Academy is a community program that combines basketball training and educational inspiration aimed towards underprivileged young boys and girls, 12 to 16 years old.

The program involves 90 minutes of basketball training once a week for 100 athletes per year at two training grounds: Ampelokipoi court

(D. Plakentias & Fthiotidos) and Lambrini court (Amiklon & Teo, Agios Andreas) (50 athletes per court).

Moreover, the program provides 12 training positions for junior coaches, 18 to 25 years old. The junior coaches will be able to participate in the training sessions of the AntetokounBros Academy under the supervision of the Head Coach Anastasia Kostaki, the first Greek woman to play in WNBA.

In addition to the core basketball training, the program involves athlete clinics, tournament events, a series of mentorship workshops, inspirational speeches and basketball school sessions that athletes and junior coaches will also need to attend as part of their participation. The educational sessions will be held at the Onassis Stegi

First season’s duration: November 2019 – July 2020

The Courts

During the summer of 2019, Nike refurbished 7 basketball courts in Athens. In Labrini area, graffiti artist Billy Gee created a design inspired by the flame inside Giannis’ heart. The flame inside Giannis’ heart is what gives him strength and motivation to achieve his dreams. It is portrayed with two hands clasped in the shape of a heart at center court. It’s the burning heart that motivates athletes to chase their crazy dreams.

Graffiti artist Cacao Rocks was the artist that curated the court of Ampelokipoi. The design of the court communicates hard work, one of the key success factors for an athlete, and of course Giannis. The mural is characterized by absolute symmetry, highlighting the strict framework in which an athlete must train in order to reach his goals. The artist experienced the creation of his work just like his theme: with many hours of hard work designing and painting the court. Much like how the dreams of the young athletes of the AntetokounBros Academy will unfold.
